I have a dream - although it always changes - It is always consistent. My dream is similar to so many of you reading this, I want to see the world. Wanderlust runs in my veins, I got it from my mothers side, so there is nothing I enjoy more that thinking up dreamy locations to visit. Today I want to share with you a few of those breathtaking locations and why they should be on your wish list.
New York, United States
A list of dream locations would never be complete without the big apple, New York. The whole city is a film set and you feel like at any moment you could have your meet-cute with a potential love. With variety from the bottom tip to the top end of Manhattan island you could explore forever and still not see everything this vibrant metropolis has to hold. Get up early grab a coffee and croissant and have Breakfast at Tiffany's a la Audrey Hepburn, take a stroll around Central Park, catch the subway down and walk the Brooklyn Bridge, view Liberty Island, see an exhibit at the Met before finishing up back in Mid town and the infamous Times Square to be dazzled by the bright lights of the big city. With everything at your feet from shopping to food, bars and more iconic buildings than you can shake a stick at and my tip would be to take in the city views from the top of The Empire State Building and The Rockefeller Buildings ‘Top of the Rock’. With so much to do and see it is the city that leaves you wanting more.
Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn is quickly topping the wander-lists of Europe due to its cheap prices on food and drink in comparison to the other Scandinavian countries. However what will really win you over are the picturesque streets and friendly locals. It is a photographers and dreamers heaven. Quaint cobbled streets with classic Scandinavian tall buildings painted pastels give way to Russian styled churches with incredible mosaics and stained glass and medieval town halls with high ceilings and exposed beam work. Take your time to look at all the traditionally made wears in the town stores, explore the castle grounds and become starry eyed over its turrets that look like they would be at home in a Harry Potter set. There won’t be an inch of this fairytale city you won’t want to explore.
This group of 74 Islands off the North Queensland coast hits lust lists for many reasons and are a dream location for holiday makers and backpackers alike. Want to stand on some of the most pristine sand in the world? You can at Whitehaven Beach (its worth it, I promise). Want to swim in crystal clear blue waters, you can. How about getting out to the worlds largest reef? Oh yes, the Whitsunday isles are the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. With some islands hosting some incredibly luxurious and exclusive resorts around and with names like Daydream Island it would be impossible not to put this area of Australia on your bucket list. Don't want to commit to just one island? Book a 3 day boat tour out of Airlie Beach and see the islands, Whitehaven and the Reef and feel like you are sailing with Captain Jack Sparrow, who wouldn't want that?
Rome, Italy
City of culture, great food, amazing wines and so much history you will be astounded by the ruins and architecture at every turn. Rome is a bucket list worthy destination for the laid back cool the Romans bring making this bustling city feel relaxed and cosmopolitan. Go for the Colosseum, pantheon but stay for the pasta topped with fresh spinach, ricotta and truffle oil and make sure to indulge in a crisp chilled glass of white wine. Take in a visit to Vatican City, the worlds smallest country (because this is technically what it is) for art and religious historical artefacts as well as to ogle the incredible St Peters Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. Spend your evenings talking to like minded travellers and locals on the Spanish Steps
St Petersburg, Russia
While visas to enter Russia may be expensive and hard to come by they are well worth it for this gem. Coined the Venice of the north your eyes will get to feast on incredible architecture in classic styling, bright colours, open gardens and breathtaking Orthodox Russian churches like Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, which is well worth a visit for the flamboyant exterior let alone the exquisite mosaicked interior. Visit in the summer when the days are long and the sun barely sets giving a sunrise - and set - that lasts for hours. Take a boat tour through the waterways and wave at the pedestrians that line the bridges to get a truly unique perspective on this expansive city. Admire artwork in the Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum or if gardens are more your thing take a bus or car an hour outside of the city to Peterhoff Palace and explore the vast gardens and breathtaking fountains.
