Review : Nomads Southern Cross - Agnes Waters / 1770

Nomads Southern Cross is the second Nomads I have stayed in since arriving in Australia and so far I am impressed with the brand.

The hostel is a little way out of the town of Agnes Waters but offers a free shuttle bus that awaits you as you get off the Greyhound to take you there. My first impression was that it was a sort of Eco-lodge with all the open green spaces, dorms in wooden cabins each named after a different country and that it ran off of rainwater for showers and taps.

There are no locks on the doors to the rooms and no lockers in the room but reception were happy to put personal belongings in the safe for you if you wanted. Linens were provided for you and blankets could be picked up at the desk if you required something extra.
The beds were comfortable though some might need replacing as my travel partner found his a bit thin where you lay from its previous occupants and could feel the slats of the frame. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and there was and en suite in out dorm as well as separate showers and toilets in the main building.

A free breakfast was available each morning though as I left on the 6.30am Greyhound the next day I didn't get to try it. Free wifi was available in the main building and worked at a good speed which is always a plus. The hostel was licensed so there was no BYO and a fine if they caught you with any in your rooms but you could store previously brought alcohol in their fridges until you left.

The hostel had it's own pool, lots of grounds to walk around and little areas to explore and uncover. The main building contained a large bar/common area by reception and a kitchen attached with open aired dining area to the back. The kitchen was small and clean, and while there weren't many stoves in the kitchen they had a barbecue and spare stove by the dining area.

Even though it was for one night I had a pleasant experience at this hostel, the atmosphere was chilled out but people still had fun in the evening. I could hear a small amount of noise in the room but I was situated in a room near the bar area so this would be expected a little. Even so guests seemed respectful of others after dark by not being overly rowdy.
